How Meters are Read

The City of Hubbard Utility Billing Office is responsible for reading meters, processing bills, and collecting utility payments for the City’s 4,273 utility customers. The City of Hubbard employs two billing clerks and one meter reader.

Utility accounts are organized into twenty-three books that are read once monthly. Electric readings are taken visually and then keyed into an electronic VersaTerm MC-5 keypad. Water readings are taken completely electronically via an ABB metering gun. The meter gun is held against a touch pad on the exterior of the structure while an electronic signal transmits the current water meter reading into the gun. All readings are stored in the keypad until downloaded into the City’s utility billing system.

Once readings are downloaded into the billing system, bills are processed and mailed to the customer.
