Scam Alert

Utility Scam Notification

There has been recent notification of a telephone scam regarding utilities. The caller uses a “330” prefix with a randomly generated Hubbard “534” number to give appearance of a local call. An automated call mentions that you may be eligible for a $50.00 rebate on utilities. In addition, it states that you may be entitled to a 30% reduction in utility rates. It asks that you press “1” to activate.

This is to alert all residents that the City of Hubbard DOES NOT have any rebates, nor does it offer a reduction in utility rates. The City of Hubbard will NEVER CALL you for solicitation purposes.

Please do not continue the call as it may ask for banking or credit card information. If you receive a call of this nature, please hang up to avoid getting scammed!

Spring Traffic Detail

Message from the Safety Director

With the warmer weather and the anticipation of summer just ahead, there tends to be an increase in the number of traffic violations including speeding, passing stopped school bus violations, operating while impaired, and overloaded commercial vehicles, which all contribute to an increase in fatal crashes.  Many drivers are distracted and are not even aware of their actions contributing to these violations and crashes.

We often see drivers operating their vehicles with an increased volume on their stereos and more frequently there is a cell phone in the hand of a driver attempting to remain on the pavement while either texting or watching the latest TikTok® video.  If they drift off the roadway far enough, there is a greater probability of disaster.  This distracted driving scenario is very real and is occurring more and more as we approach summer.

In order to address these issues, you will see an increased police presence in the city and surrounding areas today.  The Hubbard City Police Department is partnering with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with other surrounding Police agencies, in order to reduce these violations mentioned earlier which can lead to increased fatal crashes.

Please drive safely, buckle up, and put your cell phone down or turn it off while operating a motor vehicle.  Be alert and anticipate what the “other driver” may do before it happens.  Together we can reduce these violations and prevent fatal crashes from occurring in our area.  I sincerely hope that everyone has a safe and healthy summer in 2022.

Thank you,

William R. Bancroft

City Fixes Natural Gas Program Rate

City Fixes Natural Gas Program Rate

With another heating season on the horizon, Hubbard residents once again have options available to them to save money via the city’s natural gas aggregation program.  Earlier this year, Constellation New-Energy, the natural gas aggregation supplier for the city, set a two year fixed rate.  Residents who are interested in receiving their gas from this supplier can call them toll-free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 844-467-4299 .

Participants in the city’s natural gas aggregation program will be charged a fixed rate of $3.57/Mcf.  This rate will be in effect August 2021 (September 2021 billing) through July 2023 (August 2023 billing).  Dominion Energy Ohio continues to be responsible for ensuring the distribution of natural gas to residential premises and continues to maintain the meter, monthly reads and pipelines that deliver natural gas to residents’ homes.  Residents’ natural gas bills also continue to come from Dominion.  Residents can join or leave the program at any time without an early termination fee.
