10 Key Zoning Issues

1. Permits are required for the construction of:

  • buildings, dwellings, additions, garages, sheds, ramps, patios, decks, porches, playhouses, signs, car ports, pavilions, parking lots, pergolas, gazebos, new installed driveways, demolitions, swimming pools (at least 3 feet in depth) and fences exceeding 4 feet in height.

2. Garages:

  • Maximum Size – 800 s.f.
  • Maximum Height – 15 feet
  • Maximum Depth – 24 feet

3. Sheds:

  • Maximum Size – 120 s.f.
  • Maximum Height – 15 feet

4. Fences:

  • Maximum Height – 6 feet in rear or side yard; 20% open to air and light.

5. Detached garages and sheds must be at least 5 feet from the rear and side property lines.

6. Attached garages must be at least 8 feet off the side property line.

7. Maintenance free fences must be at least 6 inches off the property line

8. All other fences must be at least 2 feet off the property line.

9. The maximum depth of a front porch is 6 feet. However, the porch cannot extend into the required yard.

10. Open storage of recreation vehicles, boats and trailers is prohibited in front and side yards.  If they are 24 feet or less in length, they may be stored in rear yard.
