Letter from the Mayor

In response to the Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton signing a public health order on Sunday, March 22, 2020,  I am reaching out to you to inform you  the “stay at home order” begins at 11:59 pm Monday, March 23, 2020.  This order will be in effect until April 6, 2020.

I’d like to thank everyone for your understanding during this difficult time.  Our administration has been watching and working with other local and government officials to make certain everyone is as safe as possible.  I would also like to thank the city employees who continue to serve our city with the services needed that are vital to the people of this community.  COVID-19 will continue to affect each and every one of us in one way or another.  Governor Dewine and Ohio Department of Health Director Acton give daily updates and I encourage all residents to follow his instructions diligently.  The only way this pandemic will get better is if we follow what our health professionals are telling us to do.

In accordance with the Stay at Home Order issued by Director Acton, we would like to remind our residents to stay home and only leave for essential activities, essential government functions or to participate in essential business and operations.  All non-essential business and operations must cease.

Our parks will remain open for now – everyone should get out for a walk or run to get some exercise and fresh air.  Please remember to keep a good physical distance from one another.  Playgrounds and basketball courts are now closed.

This is a traumatic time for all of us; please treat the people that are still working to provide us with necessities with kindness.  Keep family members, friends, and neighbors in your prayers.  We will get through this!

Please visit coronavirus.ohio.gov for the director’s order to stay at home and additional information.

Thank You,

Mayor Benjamin A. Kyle,

Social Security Scam Alert

Hubbard Police would like to remind our community to stay alert for scam phone calls or emails.

Government impostor scams are growing and scaring a lot of people.  In one particularly version the caller, recorded message or email claims your Social Security number has been blocked because it has been linked to a crime.  They may even threaten that the police may be on the way.  You are told to “reactivate” this important number (your social security number), and to avoid arrest you have to pay a fee or buy gift cards and give the caller the codes on the back of the cards.

*Your Social Security number cannot be suspended, revoked, frozen or blocked.

Don’t give your Social Security number or other personal information to someone who contacts you by phone or email. SSA never requests information that way.

*A legitimate government employee will not ask you to wire money, send cash or buy gift cards as a form of payment.

*If you are threatened with arrest or some other legal action, it’s not the government calling.

Also, don’t trust the number you see coming up on your caller ID.  Criminals are able to spoof numbers to make it appear that calls are local and from a government agency.

To make sure it’s truly the SSA contacting you, hang up and call SSA’s main number at (800) 772-1213.

As always, if you need or want to speak with a Police Officer – please call 330-534-1133 or 9-1-1 for emergencies.

City Board Openings

The City of Hubbard has openings on several boards / committees.  Volunteering provides an opportunity for citizen participation in the process of government and increase their knowledge and skills by working with a variety of people on issues that might not otherwise be a part of their private lives.  Serving on a board or committee is one of the most effective ways for citizens to give back to the community and influence city policies and activities.

To be eligible for an appointment, volunteers should have interest or knowledge in the committee’s subject matter.  Volunteers should also be available to meet at the committee’s regular meeting time.  Residency in the City of Hubbard is also required for each board or committee.

Please submit your letter of interest in person to the Mayor’s Office or via email to d.madeline@cityofhubbard-oh.gov.  Contact the Mayor’s Office with any questions at (330) 534-3090.
