Spring Traffic Detail
Message from the Safety Director
With the warmer weather and the anticipation of summer just ahead, there tends to be an increase in the number of traffic violations including speeding, passing stopped school bus violations, operating while impaired, and overloaded commercial vehicles, which all contribute to an increase in fatal crashes. Many drivers are distracted and are not even aware of their actions contributing to these violations and crashes.
We often see drivers operating their vehicles with an increased volume on their stereos and more frequently there is a cell phone in the hand of a driver attempting to remain on the pavement while either texting or watching the latest TikTok® video. If they drift off the roadway far enough, there is a greater probability of disaster. This distracted driving scenario is very real and is occurring more and more as we approach summer.
In order to address these issues, you will see an increased police presence in the city and surrounding areas today. The Hubbard City Police Department is partnering with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with other surrounding Police agencies, in order to reduce these violations mentioned earlier which can lead to increased fatal crashes.
Please drive safely, buckle up, and put your cell phone down or turn it off while operating a motor vehicle. Be alert and anticipate what the “other driver” may do before it happens. Together we can reduce these violations and prevent fatal crashes from occurring in our area. I sincerely hope that everyone has a safe and healthy summer in 2022.
Thank you,
William R. Bancroft
